This is my first thread so cut me some slack. Well anywhays ive been coin collecting for a year and my coins have been kept (more or less) in a cardboard box, with airtights of course. Got any ideas on where to put them. Oh and I also have about a pound of silver in american eagles where should I put those.
Welcome to the forum Golden. There have been a number of threads on this subject recently. If you click on the "Search" button at the top of the screen, and look for the subject "storage", you'll find a wealth of information.
If you're using airtites, then you are way ahead of most of us when we were at your stage. As for the pound of silver, it would best be kept in my house. Or, just make sure you store them individually similar to the other coins. Watch our for excessive heat and humidity. As far as I know, excessive dryness (unless accompanied by high heat) never hurt a coin, and excessive cold is also OK, I think, EXCEPT if you bring cold coins insiude, they will develop condensation as they warm up.
silvereagle82 I get most of my Air-Tites from the site at the link you posted (Mitchell's). For Air-Tite album cards you might consider these folks: Air-Tite Album Cards They're the only store I know that sells the album cards in nonstandard configurations. For example, in the link you'll see that they sell album cards with the T-size openings in 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 holes. Every other store I've seen only sells the 8-hole T card. And you may not be able to tell it from the web site, but you can buy the cards from them without buying more albums. Get their catalog.
Airtites are great but I would avoid the cardboard box for extended periods of time due to the fact cardboard draws moisture and holds it! I put a lot of coins in airtites as well as 2X2 mylars and have found the old metal slide boxes for photography are absolutely fantastic for storing 2X2s as they are built and slotted for photo slides which are also 2X2! I purchased five more of the metal cases on Ebay just a few months ago. Now my more valuable coins, if they are not in albums, will go in the plastic Eagle boxes which will hold 36 coins (those boxes run in the $10 range) and I really like them very much as they are small and convenient! There is a wealth of things you could try and I am sure you will get many more answers to this post!
Plastic Air-Tite storage boxes will hold 20 coins. They don't hold more because the inside of the box has ribs to keep the display cards from banging into each other. (You mount the Air-Tite case to a display card first).
Thanks for all info. The airtight albums and boxes sound alright ill try them, and no JBK the silver will stay at my house.
