After reading the coin collector's survival guide I went ahead and purchased Saflips for my coins. I was under the impression that coin flips were designed to protect coins but apparently, many actually contain PVC and can destroy coins. I have had some coins sitting in unknown flips for several years and I can only hope they have not been damaged. I had a question about the clear whitman coin tubes. They say "museum quality" but do not state either way if they do not release chemicals that could damage my collection. I have coins in these are they safe to use? What about ziplock baggies? I also have random coins like pennies in bags.

Stick with the well known names in numismatics. Whitman makes a bunch of coin holder products, so I have confidence in their products. I don't they would sell anything with PVC.

When buying flips, just make sure they say it contains no PVC, like Saflips, Kodar, Mylar, etc. Basically, the softer the flip, the more likely is has PVC.

Some lesser known brands still have plasticizers in them, so I stick with the major known brands.

BTW, I wouldn't use ziplock baggies for any along term storage.
