Heres one u missed... The annual chillicothe coin club show: mar 8th chillicothe ohio I will be in attendance and so will my buddy who just got his income tax check... muuuaaaahaaaaahaaaaaahaaaaaaahahaha
The Raleigh show is okay. The best is the Raleigh Coin Club convention or show in June is really good. I usually go to this show tomorrow to just look around. Bullion is usually too high because all these dealers paid more when spot was higher so all of it's priced over what they bought it for, not near what silver ended today. You can find some deals that will negotiate. I guess it depends what you are looking for if it would be worth a 2 hour drive.
I went to the Raleigh show this morning -- fortunately, I got there before the game traffic built up! There were more empty tables than usual for sure. Nobody was advertising buy prices for 90%; the one guy I asked was offering 11x, not too bad, but he didn't act like he expected much traffic. The lowest sell price I saw for bulk 90% was 12.5x, again, not too bad. LOTS of people were offering gold and silver at pre-drop prices. I did find one guy with a beat-up, polished 1911-S Saint for $1165, and some larger world gold piece (1.2oz, I think) for about 99% of spot. I wrestled with myself for quite a while, but left without either one; I like to buy PM on dips, but you can't tell a dip from a drop except in hindsight, and gold by the ounce is still a bit rich for my blood. I'm feeling some pretty sharp regret, though. I'd consider going back tomorrow if the regret keeps up, but I really doubt the pieces will last that long.
I was wondering if you have a yearly calendar for the national shows and possibly the regional shows? If not could you maybe compile a similar list? Our club elected not to have our show for the first time in about 10 years and I want to pursue us traveling to a larger show since we wont be hosting any. If we cant hold a show to meet and greet new dealers, by golly we deserve to travel to get that experience. If it helps to narrow down results, we are Southeast based.
I went to the Waukesha show last Sunday. As I mentioned earlier, the last time I was there was in 1979, which was right before silver went through the roof and my coin budget fizzled. I was pleasantly surprised at how crowded it was for a club show, but it had to have been the most poorly lit room I've ever been in for a coin show. Some dealers had lights, and some were literally in the dark. I bought from the former. Lots of variety available at different price levels, including medals and exonumia. Met up with another VAM collector from the area and did lunch after spending a couple hours looking around and spending a little money. Rather than waiting another 36 years, I'll probably go again next year.
Yes, our coin show database is searchable by state, zip code radius, or by key word. If you want to display shows on your website we can even create a custom feed like the feeds seen on coinshow.us or coinmine
messydesk, There is a 3 day show coming up March 19-21st on the south side of Milwaukee (Around 13th and College). Give that one a try. There will be about 40 dealers and a much bigger room.
