Well now. This show was in Southfield Michigan. Talk about a crowded show. The place was packed. Most of the same dealers, pretty much the same crowd, however, NO KIDS. I always watch for the kids at shows, this one was old farts like me. I have never seen so many dipped, whizzed, cleaned, Morgan Dollars in one show in my life. I swear I think most of the dealers stopped at the local hardware store on the way in to the show. Maybe all shows are like this and I just noticed it more at this one for some reason. I did manage to pick up a decent AU 1886S Morgan, A few Kennedy's some Canadian Stuff though. NO FRANKLINS, I dont remember the last time I didnt grab a Franklin at a show, Nothing caught my attention this time. Most of the stuff was the usual this and that. I did run into one dealer though, He had some nice NICE stuff, albeit I think overgraded. Of course when your on the floor side the grades seem lowerr than when your behind the table! : ) He had a few of the 09S IHC in what he called VF, I called VG. This liberty stuff has me confused I guess. Anyway, I passed on the prices. He had a 1901S Barber Quarter that I was really pondering. I thought the grade was a VG, none of liberty showed but it had nice rims. (I had always graded them with 3 of liberty to be a VG) Here I was thinking around $5-6K.. He floored me with a price of 9.5K arghh.. Pass again Overall the show was good, at least thats my impression, I do question my ability to grade coins or at least what I perceive to be grades from the "old" days. There is another show in two weeks that I plan on going to. We will see what that one brings. Get a kid involved, the hobby is gonna suffer if we don't.
That gave me the biggest laugh I had all day, Jim! I'm trying... But seriously, they are the future of the hobby. Some shows do much better than others with this. (Thalia has been treated so well at the shows we've been to!) Ditto with some dealers as well; I know we have a "keeper" dealer here.

Sure, I agree that I would love to get one for $5 to $6 K, but, then again, it ain't a gonna happen. The Other Frank
