Coin Show Report - Ohio Coin Expo

I just got back from my first real show (after collecting off and on for about 10 years).

I was able to catch this show back in May, but just went to peruse and get a feel for the atmosphere/dealers. This time around I was prepared with lists, guides, and a budget!

My overall perception was that the show was sold out for space but on Saturday the show traffic seemed rather quiet. This of course didn't stop the aisles from being difficult to manage - factor 2 occupied chairs on each side and 1 person going each way and you had a traffic jam.

I've previously done many shows for different hobbies (military/gun shows) and have been far happier with attitudes from coin dealers. One dealer even let me have a previous issue of the graysheet so I could know current values for the peace set.

My finds for the show were:
-Kennedy: '65 SMS, '66 SMS, '67 SMS, 68-S all for $20
-1952-s Franklin in AU for $20
-1949-s Franklin in MS and 1951 Booker T Washington in AU for $45
-1926 Peace (MS) and 1935 Peace in AU for $60
-1928-S Peace (AU) and 1921 Peace (AU) for $140

Overall, I was quite happy as I got 2 of the 3 Franklins still needed for my set and got that much closer to finishing my Peace collection - especially with a $110 AU Peace!

I'm attaching some pictures of the 1921. There's luster/toning present around the edges in a circular way, but likely not enough to get '55 in my opinion.

Now that is a good dealer. Nice coin. Sounds like a local show here - usually 10 - 15 dealers in a small room with little navigating room. Still fun to visit them.

Coin shows are a good way to see a lot of coins in a short period of time. Nothing can replace physically looking at lots of coins in terms of learning to grade, and spotting problem coins.

 

I think the dealer overgraded the 1921 Peace
BUT
for the price you paid ($110) you did well.
No worries for that coin.

 

The 1921 Peace dollar is very hard to grade since they are struck so soft

 

nicely done!

 

I think you did fine on the 21 Peace, and the 49S Franklin.
Some of the other prices seem high, but then I'm not as active then I was last year.
