I'm moving to the Eastern part of Mississippi in 10 days and was wondering if any major coin shows go on around there...or any type of major coin events at all. Thanks

Heh I'm from Mississippi originally and I don't think anything major ever happens, except for the annual blessing of the fleet on the coast. The coin show in Jackson is supposed to be ok, and I think there used to be one in Vicksburg too. Let's see...you're going to the EASTERN side? If I remember my MS geography that could be Meridian? Or maybe Hattiesburg? If you're near the northern corner you can travel to Birmingham to the show there...it's a good one. If you don't mind a little driving, that is. Depends on where you are, I guess.
I'm moving to Columbus...great job oppurtunity + my own apartment as a perk. Are there many scammers selling coins at shows?
There recently were several letters in a recent Numismatic News about a coin show in that part of the country. Seems like the local police shook down all the coin dealers.
CoinWorld had an article about that also. It was just in the last few weeks, but I can't find it now. Seems the local promoter had some issues with the city, county, tax officials. The tax officials came to the show with police offers to collect the fees. So you may want to check with the upcoming show promoters to make sure they are still having dealers attend.
