For everyone out there that has ever complained about how a coin show is run or they should have done it this way, step up to the plate and volunteer to put on the show for your club. I started putting on the shows for my club ( Black Hills Coin And Stamp Club) a few years ago and have learned just how hard it is to please everyone. To be fair I started drawing for table assignment starting by the door and working towards the back of the room. Most of the dealers from out of the area thought this was great, but not everyone liked the idea. Then I thought I would limit the sales or certain items ( rocks and bottles ) as Rapid City has Clubs for those things and I didn't want to offend these clubs. Also when it comes to advertising everyone has different ideas as what to do and spend. Since our club is non profit I try to spend all the money taken in by table fees on the room and advertising. I also try to get fliers out over a four state area as Rapid City is so close to Montana, Wyoming and Nebraska. Over all it's a GREAT experience. Our show has dealers coming from 9 different states this year, and should be an outstanding experience. So jump in and help out at your club next show and I guarantee you will get a greater appreciation for the people who put on the shows. Jim :smile
I would love to help organize a show for my local....if I had a local club. But, I don't doubt it's a lot of work and headaches trying to get things right, and even then some won't be happy. No matter what you can't please them all. Guy
boxeldercoin, i really wish i was up your way to drop by the show. I know it's a lot of work with little praise or gratitude.
