Was at the monthly coin show yesterday. Picked up some (are ya listening Speedy?) Choice Franklins and a couple of barber dimes. I met a dealer yesterday who I sat and talked to for about an hour. Expert on Trade Dollars, I was picking his brain like no tomorrow., I really would like to put together a set of those but they scare me to death. (fakes) Anyway, First time I noticed how many kids. 8-13 years old were at a show. It tickeld me to no end. I was talking to another dealer about a quantity of BU Washingtons and this girl who had to be about 11 maybe came up and asked the dealer if he had any 1980 proof sets. I had to smile, she looked at the set, said yep, this is a nice one, how much. well, she didnt have enough for the set, But she did walk away with it as its new owner. I so much enjoy seeing kids getting into the hobby. Not much at the show catching my eye this time though, a few SVDB's. some CC dollars, NOT ONE 09S IHC. Grrrr.... This weekend is the State show, See how that pans out. Anyone else going?

    Jim,

I was also at that show for an hour or so, 'bout the third time I've been. It's not a great show for me, there never are many half cents there, but I do enjoy going. Plus, I get to bring the wife with me, and she has a good time. She likes the Jim that runs the show, and he told us a neat little story about a roll of 16-Ds.

Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to go to this weekend's state show, as I was just informed that I will be working. I'm so sad, all those half cents I'm not going to get to look through!

Good luck at the state show,

    Fish

What grade are you hunting the 09-S IHC in??...they are hard to find and I guess I'm just nosey but I rarely see any in grades higher than VG.

Quality key and semi-key Indians have been real hard to find in F-AU for a while now around here too. Plenty of AG and MS's though, go figure.

Jim. Do you go to the Kalamazoo shows? I used to go to the Spring and Fall show at the fairgrounds but have never been to the monthly show. Anymore I pretty much stick to a nice show in Northern IN (Approx. 30 tables) held every month at the Comfort Suites just north of South Bend. Really nice dealers and usually some really nice inventories.

I'm thinking that maybe Mr.Jim ponied up the difference himself but is too modest to say so?:)

Isn't that Michigan place somewhere just North of civilazation here in Illinois? :) We have coin shows almost every weekend around here. If you are in the SE of that statel, you should try some of our, always better, in Illinois coin shows. I found it interesting that a dealer at a coin show has time to talk that long to any one person. At even the smaller coin shows around here there is an almost endless parade of collectors going through the aisles. The one I went to yesterday was already packed with people when I got there and that was at 9AM and that was when it was SUPPOSED to open. I didn't really want to spend to much because I was looking for just certain coins but somehow manage to blow over $1,000. There is a coin show on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of every Month withing 12 miles of me. There are a few more here but they are well over my driving limit to go to any kind of show. If you can find Illinois sometime try to make the Countryside, Il show. I heard there is going to be a real biggy for the holidays coming up.
Glad to see you have YN's around there. At the coin shows around here it is seldom and far between to see anyone under 100 years old. Slight exageration but not by much.

Know what you mean----when I found my 1909-S IHC in VF30 I jumped on it because that was the first one I had seen that high---I was kindof wanting the date anyway but thought I would have to go for a lower grade one---but I guess when you have the money and the coin is right there in your hand and you like it the word NO is hard to say.
Needless to say---I haven't ever seen in person an 1877 IHC in any better grade than G4---and that was at a show 2 years ago.

I wanted to go to the state show (went last year) but I'll be home for Thanksgiving. It's really a nice show and I enjoyed it a lot. Worst part was driving in Michigan.

What's with Michigan people doing 55 in the left lane in a 65/70 zone? I HATE that!

I thought so also, and if he did, then a thank you to him.
Without the kids the hobby has no future.

My 77 came back from ANAC as a F-12. I am thinking it might be a tad higher than that but thats fine. I have had it for probably 20 years so I know I did ok on it. I have just not found that 09S yet. Seen a few in the VF range but they always have that woodgrain look to them and it just doesnt fit in the collection

I have thought about taking some Morgans to the next show and giving a few out to kids, but I am afraid of getting arrested or something. Strange world we live in these days.
