Went to the twice monthly coin show by me.
Same faces and pretty much the same coins but I did pick up two items.
A Botanical Gardens proof dollar for $28, which is basically melt at current prices.
2 1970 Mint Sets, 1 with small date cent for $9@!!!
I walked it over to another table and sold it for $60.
Easiest money I've made in quite some time.
The guy had several 70 Mint Sets and I looked thru all of them hoping to find the small date and a decent half.
The set I took home has a nice half, easily MS65 and not baggy at all, like many of the 70D's

Just goes to show that if you are knowledgeable, and alert, you can do very well from dealers who should know what they are selling. Good finds, 'Geezer!

Dang I wish I could apply such knowledge at a coin show like that!

    Nice work.

Pretty neat. Most people go to a show to spend money not make money.

Now imagine if those two dealers get to talking after the show. Dealer 2: "Check out what I just bought from a guy for only $60!"
Dealer 1: "What a coincidence! I just sold a set just like that to a guy for 9 bucks!"

Dealer 2: "Waaaaait a minute, what did this guy look like???"

This thread reminds me of an anecdote from the 6th edition (ANA Grading Standards).

    (1) A good Magnifying Glass
    (2) A good light
    (3) A good memory, and
    (4) 20 Years of experience

was on a roll until I ran into #4. Wish I had the knowlege that some of you have.

The problem is when you get 20 years worth of experience, #3 starts to fade.:D

That's why you need to get into the hobby in the fifth grade like I did!

Which is why everyone should read Malcolm Gladwell's book Outliers. He covers why it takes 10,000 hours of study or practice is what makes someone a master at something.

  12. 20 years of experience is overrated. I can't argue with people that have it, but I can't say people with less than that are always less knowledgeable.

Melville Show Geezer? Missed it today. Same faces and same coins? Guess I didn't miss much......:)

I'll try again in two weeks.

Yeah Melville. I got there fairly early and all the regular customers were there.
Fewer dealers than usual. You didn't miss anything by not going. I didn't go to the last one, so I thought I'd check it out today.
I'm looking forward to next Saturday's Massapequa show. It's usually a good time.

Indeed. Experience generally but not always leads to knowledge.
But there are some real dolts out there who have been collecting for decades and never seem to learn.
And there are some YNs who have amassed a lot of knowledge.
