I've got Hugh Wood for home and safe deposit box.
What I'm looking for is insurance for shipped items.

eBay is linked to some optional insurance when you create shipping labels through them.
BUT that insurance doesn't cover coins (and I guess currency).

What I'm looking for is insurance for coins in the $50 to $1000 range (but mostly the lower end of that range).
Also I want to be able to use it on items with shipping labels created through eBay.
Obviously not directly with the eBay labels but additional markings that i could add to the same package.
A case-by-case basis would be best; I'm not a dealer so I don't sell often.
But I'll at least look at a a yearly package.
    And of course done easily.

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

I use USPS insurance. You do have that option on eBay, just click on the insurer window. They cover collectible (slabbed) currency, but I don't know if they cover raw.

Contact Hugh Wood about adding shipping insurance to what you have. You should be able to specify a limit on shipping coverage independent of the value of your collection and it might not add much to your annual premium. The requirements for coverage is that you use signature confirmation up to a certain value, then registered or express mail above that. No more "steal me" sticker or indication of value or insurance to the post office. There is a deductible, though, in case of loss.

Figure out what you pay for retail postal insurance in a year to determine if it's worthwhile to add shipping insurance to your HW policy.

I also use usps insurance added when printing the label on ebay. They automatically suggest a different insurance, but usps is cheaper, and they do cover coins (they have the few times I had to file a claim). I really only insure over $400 packages, and I do not always insure for the full amount, just enough to ease the pain if it gets lost.

I believe the ANA has a vendor that it advertises for this type of insurance. The website is www.shipandinsure.com

Have any of you had to file an insurance claim? If you did, I'd like to know how it went.

I've had 2 I think, several years ago. Both with usps, and both a pain in the butt. Took way too long, and many emails, calls, etc, but both finally paid.

Amazing that I never caught on to that.
    Thanks.

I saw that and got confused.

Also I looked at Hugh Wood but couldn't find anything about shipping.

I have never had USPS lose a package so I usually just pay a few extra dollars for signature confirmation. The tracking number will show it has gotten to the destination and with a signature you shouldn't have any problems.

But it only takes the loss of one multi-hundred dollar coin to damage one's karma.

I use the USPS small flat rate box and reinforce the inside of the boxes on top and bottom with more cardboard, while putting it in a case if it isn't graded then surround in bubble wrap and stuff it tight. I have never had a problem and I think it would take quite a bit to damage that. If it does I will take the standard $50 insurance and think I am still ahead by not paying outrageous amounts to insure for unlikely events.

I used to buy insurance for every package until I did the math. I would have to lose a coin every month to make buying insurance for every package worth it. So I take a loss of a couple hundred bucks occasionally, but come out ahead by being self insured.
