So with the buyer beware of *unsorted* coin lots on eBay, Shop@Home, QVC, etc.etc..

Where's the beginner start to look for more coins? Estate Sales, Garage Sales, Friends Couches, Goodwill Furniture Section of couches?

Really? I would think anything from a coin shop would already be searched? But I suppose "Unsearched" and "Buying Coins" are two different animals of collecting coins?

As always I appreciate the support and help from you guys.. It's been a really warm welcome which is hard to find in forums these days.. I know I run three myself..

Followup Question: How often or rare are errors discovered in todays time for wheat cents, and the older coins? As a new addict I find it interesting with the help of google. The number of so called errors people claim even on ebay. Currently I've been using the pcgs price guide as a *guide* and not the definitive answer. But half of these errors don't match up to anything in that guide? So I guess the second part of the question is, does the mint have to acknowledge the error such as a Double Die, D over S, etc.etc.. If not, then I would assume it's sorta based on the number found vs the number not found that would make worth the collection value?

I can't answer all of your questions about error coins other than to say that errors/varieties are being discovered all the time, but not so many of them command high prices. PCGS prices are rather high, I wouldn't attempt to use them as a guide. One way to find interesting coins without 'spending' anything is roll searching. And if errors/varieties are your focus, buy the Cherrypicker's Guide.

Go to local auctions and yard/garage sales.
You get your best prices there and can cherry-pick like a wildman at the auctions.
At the yard/garage sales, make sure to ask if they have any coins for sale.
A lot of times these people never think to bring out their collections or jars of spare change.
Take a hand cart with you for those people who fill the huge water bottles...lol
    ;)

Oh BTW, not all coin dealers know what they have.
You can cherry-pick them sometimes, too.
A lot of them do not keep up on errors, VAMs, and such.
    :)
