I have been in route sales for last 42 years..This last depression was the best..Starting in 2008. I would stop in banks and go in and ask if they had any old money that had been deposited..I began to get 1929 10's 20's and then the 1934's started to appear, then it tapered off..Later in a conversation with another currancy dealer I mentioned that it has slowed down now the tellers would say they didn't have any in the drawer..His answer they are removing and taking out of circulation which I knew that but had not been asking what have you taken out of circulation this week or today..Bingo the first bank had over 300.00 taken out ..Next question will you sale what you have taken out and I purchased..One day in Plains Ga. I stope at a Dollar General and ask the lady if she had any old coins that might have been spent..She said she got four indian cent in real good shape and wasn't willing to sale..There was this lady elderly I will say with a cart behind me she says I got lots of rolls of indian head pennies..Now do you believe lots of rolls or are the wheat cents..I asked do you want to sale them she would, I had to go on down the road to a customer and I asked if on my way back north could I come by and look at her collection..Several hours later I arrived at a very neat land modest home in Plains just beautiful..she had on her glass dining room table coins laid out the wrapers was sold old that they came apart some were busted and the coins was visiable..Wow now that is rolls of pennies...I asked what she thought was a fair price..I want 75.00 a roll won't take less..I paid her..Then she said wait just a minute and came back placed a sack of Morgans in front of me..This is getting out of hand as I'am only carrying so much money being on the road..I spent the rest of the money I could afford to and still get home..The she came out with the 1914 twenty dollar bills..I ask if I could return on another day my next trip down and stop by for the rest agreeded...about a month and I arrived back at her house..Purchased remaining money then she say I have my neighbors coins also she had gathered all the silver coins dimes franklins and morgans up..I drove to Leesburg, Ga. which was my closes bank that I did business with ..She had my monely and I expanded my collection...Love it...Its all about the SEARCH...LJ
Nice story. Seems to good to be true. But I hope it is. And am I wrong but isn't 75 for a roll of Indians a little over priced ? I could see 50 maybe.
No Sir The lady was 92 years Old..The ones that was busted looked very nice..when you see a 1879 that will reach F to EF..I got a very good bargain on 25 rolls and she got the price she asked for..I paid her asking price on the Morgans..Silver at that time was under 30.00..she asked 25.00 got a good deal on them as well..Now you have to understand going into this deal I told her to understand any deals we made I had to make some money and that I wanted what she thought would be fair and her sleep well after I left..A very gracious lady had no children still live in the home she and her husband had built many years ago..Don't know but hope she is still alive and well today...Her sister also lived with her she in her 80's ...Lj
