Coin rolls from small towns

I grew up in a very small rural farming community. The town where I grew up in central Kansas has only 200 people. It was/is a post office, bank and a few houses. The proverbial "sneeze when you drive through and you will miss it", town. So, I was reading an article about getting rolls from banks in larger metropolitan areas, like where I live now. It said that most of the time it is harder to get/find rolls of certain coinage from banks in cities because the money goes in and out more frequently. I guess meaning older coinage is sent to a reserve more often and taken out of circulation. It said that banks in smaller towns are often a better bet. I was wondering if this had been the experience for anyone else? What are your thoughts?

Sucks moving from a small town to a big area that I know. Anyway I agree with you, I feel like I should go to more banks around Grosse Pointe since it's all old money lol being that most of these nice houses here and all are from grandma and grandpa. Plus when I went to the National City I bought the halves they had and got a good bit of silver and a franklin though a common date. Also all the halves they had where on these trays they had and where all dusty looked like there may have been some silver dollars lol I tried not looking really hard but there were bigger coins then halves on these trays just couldn't make out what they were. I could just imagine asking a bank if they had 20 dollar coins and receive gold peices.

200 people... I bet there was more than one bar. I grew up in a farm town of 250 and we had 4 bars and 6 churchs. Unfortunately we had only one bank which burned down once. It was rebuilt but apparently the old vault didn't do its job and if it wasn't burnt it was smoke damaged. They leveled the entire area to rebuild so I'm sure there are no good finds left in a forgoten corner there.

I bet that's a common hang out for the local metal detector enthusiasts.

No, have never had a chance. I would like to, but every month it seems like something else is going on. Oh well, such is life.

Actually, I do not think there are even any bars there anymore.

It is pretty much a ghost town. But, the bank is still there and my parents still live there. I may have to see if they would be willing to be my middle man.

You just descibred a town I'm getting ready to move to. 800 people, 4 bars (that I know of), 4 churches, and 1 bank (which burned down, but was rebuilt).

I hadn't thought about hitting the bank for rolls, but I like the idea. I won't be within a 10 minute drive of a good dealer anymore.
