I am in high school Instead of reading 15 lessons and each lesson is 46 pages of jane eyre (an english women in england which takes place in the 1816's) I decided to do this: Read a book, and do a book report about it. The book is going to be on Stephen Hawkings theories. I also have to do a coin project, this time, it isn't about art. Today I going to talk to the art teacher about how long the art project has to be. However this project has to be 21 pages and in coins in general. Here's the catch, I have to cite all my resources. Now I've learned alot about coins, generally from 2 or 3 books I have on numismatics, and the PCGS guide to counterfeit detection and grading. I don't really know any good books to buy on toning, or gold coins. The problem with citing all my resources is ive learned alot about coins already in my 11 years of collecting and I don't remember where I learned this stuff. So, I'm going to have to go through every thing I can find on the internet books and the few books I Have (I can't go to the library and find coin books. they don't have any. The only book they have is a krause book), the bookstore has a few more numismatic books, but again nothing really. And I don't have any money (nor do my parents) to buy any numismatic books. So my only choice besides the few books I have, is the internet It has to be 21 pages, and have a cover page (1 page), a conclusion (1 page) and an introduction (1 page) which takes away a few pages. I need to go through numerous aspects of coins, if anyone could help me with this list: Toning, grading, counterfeits, altering, doctoring, tooling, etc. Gold coins, world coins, to compare and contrast coins from different worlds to each other, US coins, US coin history, other world coin history, gold coin history, the gold standard relating to gold coins, PCGS, the grading services, coin lingo (DMPL, 'across the street', 3rd party grading service, etc) And please don't tell me to listen to EVERYONES advice. You can't go through life and never argue, it doesn't happen that way. I'm not going to be guilliable and naive and say I listen to everyone and everything here, not everyone everything says is good advice. For example, I don't listen to my uncle tuffy who is very knowledgeable about coins instead i listen to the people here.I don't agree with everyone. there are people that have helpful advice that is true, and helpful advice that is false. I listen to the advice I'm sure is right. I've listened to most advice here and on other forums (Not to clean a coin for example), and some advice I don't listen to but I don't do anyway (you can scratch a coin with your fingernail,referring to gold coins alloyed with other metals) Thanks
US coin history, read the Redbook and quote R. S. Yeoman. You already have the book on Gold Sovereigns no? (Did you say you had it?) well that sorts your Brit coins out. If i were you i'd look through your library to see if you can find any books dealing with economics and finance and research the Gold Standard, that's coins and history of gold all in one. It's up to you to find the reference material for that though i won't do this project for you. A google search should answer most of you questions. Although use credible sites. If the site is trying to sell something or is an investment site ignore it, it's nothing but propaganda material and they don't bother to check the accuracy of their information more often than not. If it's more in a dry academic style then it's better.
Since you can write books on each item you are looking for info on... good luck trying to fit it all in 21 pages Doing a search on the open net will turn up alot of information. Reputible coin sites will usually have some sort of history on the subject they are talking about on their pages.... Good Luck!!!!
I really can't see this project being a problem. What you've actually got is too much information to play with, which gives you an advantage because it means you can chose to include what you please.
The internet will be the best place since no books stores around you...try searching those words here on the Forum and on Google.... I thought you liked Gold coins??...and you don't have any books on gold coins??...that is a big need to your collection. If you remember it in your head and don't have to read it out of a book...then you are the resource...you don't need to try to find who told it to you... I would cut that down a bit...here is what I would do-- Toning, grading, counterfeits, altering US and World Gold coins, US coins, the gold standard relating to gold coins,the grading services, coin lingo, grading. That should give you a LOT more than 21 +/- pages... True...but you can listen and sort out the good and the bad..so in that way...you still need to listen to everyone. Speedy
thank you speedy. But you don't understand, I can't write about whats in my head because I'd have to cite the sources wher eI got it from! I don't remember where I got it from! I've been collecting for over a decade. If I could write in my head and not have to cite the sources, that would be easier. I do listen to everyone, but I don't always act on everyones so called advice. Some advice is bad IMHO
Yes the book was given to me. Mostly its just a price book. Tell me if its any good? I got it given to me 'SPINK Standard Catalogue of british coins" Coins of england and the united kingdom 35th edition SPINK 2000 It does have a nice introduction though. I will search on google. I will go to the library and look for gold standard stuff too This library is high tech, and huge, makes you wonder why theres so little numismatic books. a shame, really Is american gold exchange a good place to buy/research? They have a library there. I think the coins are for investors.
That is where I think you can get around it...somethings people can't cite...try to cite how you leaned to walk...or eat...you don't remember that so in that case you can't cite...so if you have info for the article that you know but don't remember where you read it...you don't have to...ask your teacher but I think she/he will agree with me...at least that is how I have done articles..
