I have a 2003 silver proof set. It seems the Maine quarter has 7 rays or light coming from the light house. it is either a struck through dropped filling or struck through misc. (greese filing etc..)
Upon close inspection the area in question looks pitted and pushed in to the coin.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated

    Also -
I have a 1941 silver washington quarter that seems to have been rolled down to a nickels diameter. this caused the edges to become raised and made it look like a checker.

1972 Lincoln Penny - dont know what is going on with it - looks like it was partially dipped in acid - but the obv and rev have different markings. Brockage?

Looks like your quarter was the start of a silver coin ring. Outside edges get tapped to form the ring , then the center is drilled out. After some polishing a nice coin ring results. This is usually done with a half dollar because quarters will only make a childs ring.

    Thanks Doc
Yeah that looks exactly like it. I dont rememberwhere the coin came from. But it is interesting.
Thanks for the info, now I can look bookish when I explain it to people.
BTW - any idea about the other coins?

Check the same post you made in the Error Forum ;)

And please - in the future - you only need to post your questions once :D
