I remember reading somewhere that in most years the anvil die was the reverse of the coin but there were exceptions. I wonder if anyone can tell me regarding the cent. My reason for asking is I am finding some "mad" cents where the reverse is off center mostly 2002 and 2005 it seems.

It has been my understanding that the anvil die does not move therefore preventing the coin from being off set am I correct or mis-informed?

The correct term is misaligned die (MAD), on Lincoln cents the anvil die is the reverse and the obverse is the hammer die. It is my understanding that the hammer die is more likely to be misaligned, but the anvil die can also be misaligned though not as much due to the collar.

Personally I have seen MADs occur on both sides
