Does anyone use one of these, or do you just use Excel? If you do, which one do you use/prefer? I see all kinds online, ranging from $20 to $90 (either one is cheaper than paying $400 for MS Office). Some claim to update market values regularly & can display photos of your coins, while others come with photos for reference (don't really need that). I purchased one of these way back in high school, only to lose it before I could try it out (didn't have a 3.5" floppy drive). Is it worth it to purchase one of these, or is there a nice shareware program out there that works just as good as anything else? What do you guys recommend?
I've never tried one myself - but from what I hear from those that have - I'd pass on the shareware programs. Check out this thread - I think you'll find the answers you want there - Click Here
Try this freeware program highlighted in the August issue of ANA's Numismatist - "Virtual Coin Cabinet II". (www.dataxm.com) It's very basic and easy to use. I entered all my coins and customed the catalog layout and it works great for me (194 coins). It also allows you to enter photos, sort, print various lists catologs, etc. The article states that the September issue will futher discuss other features of the program...as I said it is very basic so I'm interested in reading what else you can do with it.
