I have just acquired a coin from Libya. It is not list in any Krause catalogue I looked at. It is 1/4 dinar with an Islamic date of 1369, with a yellowish color probably a brass alloy. Any information would be appreciated.
The 1/4 dinar coin looks like the last series on coins minted in Libya. They all have the same arab on horseback.
Libya hasn't minted any 1/4 Dinar coins nor any coins dated 1369. They have a series dated 1399 featuring a rider on horseback, though. Similarly, Sudan had a camel and rider on coins starting in 1376 with later dates also. There were no 1/4 Dinar coins though. Elaborate on the design and any other legible writing and check the date again.
It's a libyan 1/4 dinar, issued on 2001 with the new calendar in use in Libya: 1369 from the death of the prophet. Have a look here: http://www.wbcc.fsnet.co.uk/af-liy.htm.
