http://cgi.ebay.com/Old-silver-neck...tem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53e1afa7fb The beads of this necklace are actually Mercury dimes that have been bent. I can't imagine doing this and ruining all the coins. Ice
No doubt besides that to me at least, it's a bit ugly. I can't picture a lady wearing that but some ladies can wear anything and make it look good. What's with the hefty price tag, another attention getter I suppose.
Just Dimes I think that at the time it was first constructed, they were "just dimes" pulled from circulation. My mother-in-law was a OT and made some truly beautiful stuff back in the 40's & 50's. But she also used "slabs" of silver back then when it was really no big deal.
What a way to uglify the crap out of something. I think some coin jewelry is beautiful, but this one....yuck.
The flashiest piece of coin jewelry I ever saw was a guy who owned an Audi dealership. He had a ring that had an enameled 2 1/2 gold indian, with each feather painted a different color.
I've seen some of these, and I think they are quite color. Having a beautiful coin such as an Indian Quarter Eagle, but painted every color of the rainbow, that is a double yuck. I've seen some beautiful coin jewelry, imagine a beautiful uncirculated coin, such as a French Franc from 1898-1920, those were stellar! Imagine that on your neck, it would be one great piece of jewelry and a conversation piece. My Aunt had a bunch of old coins, but they got lost in a house fire she had a few years back. She wears one coin on her neck all the time, a British Crown from the 1880's, and it had been a tad overdipped from what I can tell, but the coin and bezel itself are quite the centerpiece of a jewelry collection.
