Hello. I am new to this forum. I have been collecting for about 2 years and my favorite coins are Indian Head Cents, Flying Eagle Cents, Large Cents and of course, Silver Dollars. I am looking for people who may have Coin Lots - mixed bags of silver coinage or Indian Heads that they are looking to trade for or sell. I have bought a few Grab Bag lots on e-Bay a few have been very good (worth way more than I paid) but, most are 100% junk. Can anyone give me any suggestions on where I can find such items from either another forum member or from a trustworthy dealer online? It seems like most of the coin websites I visit only offer very expensive coins and I have a tight coin budget. Thank you for any help in this matter. Also, I have a bag of silver Roosevelt Dimes and Mercury Dimes. I am not that fond of them and I am willing to put them up for trade. Any suggestions are welcome and thank you!
Welcome, miaione. Sound's like you found out about eBays grab bag lots the hard way. Don't worry about it too much though, we all make mistakes. Just consider it a learning experience. If you are looking for some trustworthy dealers to buy coins from, there are several that post on this forum regularly. National Dealer, QUEENCOIN, Tradernick, just to name a few. You can send any of them a private message if you wish. We would like for you to not ask others to buy sell or trade on the Main Coin Forum though. You can do that on the Open Forum after you have made 10 posts. Good luck with your search.
welcome to the forum miaione, If you buy in bulk, you will not be getting the choicest material. Now most of us (dealers) sell most 90% silver to customers in bulk, but I can guarantee most has been picked through. Indian Cents, Buffalo Nickels, and Liberty Nickels are processed the same way. Now with that said. It is difficult for online dealers to list all of their merchandise. There just isn't time. It is also not very cost effective to list lower priced items. Find a few dealers and start building a relationship with them. Ask them what kind of material can be bought in bulk or by the roll. You can easily build a relationship without buying. Start with emails and phone calls. Be very specific in what you want and the price range you are looking for. A great place to look for dealers would be for you to purchase the 2004 Numismatic Dealers Guide. http://greysheet.com/cdn/98ndd.asp This book is a fantastic tool every collector should have. I do not leave home without it. Now buying on Ebay is fine. The biggest issue that I have with Ebay is that the vast majority of people selling coins are not dealers. Many people get ripped off and really have no way of settling the matter. I recommend that you only deal with coin dealers that are members of the ANA or PNG. Of course this is just a personal opinion.
thanks for the information! I have been reading the different posts and I am looking forward to learning a lot more! Thanks again!
