Coin ID - help please

    Hi, I have this old coin which I know nothing about. Other side of coin is illegible. Appreciate any help or info on what type of coin this is.

    Hi Krisdin,

    Please measure the diameter and also tell us the weight, if you can. Also, even though you say the obverse is illegible, take a well-focused picture of it and post it anyway. There may be more clues than you realize on that side.

    The side you showed is probably the reverse of a half follis from one of the Byzantine emperors.

    I've edited your images for ease of viewing. The obverse looks like two figures shown full length, seated. My best guess is Justin II with Sophia. Determining the mint and year of issue might not be possible due to the condition. That information is on the reverse (renal year in right field, mint at bottom). Some gentle cleaning might reveal those details. Below your coin is an example from CNG's archives. There are many people on this board who are very familiar with Byzantine coinage. Maybe one of those people will render an opinion.
