What are your thoughts on all the different holders out there available for use... Self sealing 2X2 vs staple 2X2 kointains vs whitman...etc
I still use the flips with staples for common coins, uncs, somes extra proofs and any silver coinage I come across. I really can't afford the price for cointains. I do have some cointain selfsealers for my better coins.
If you're going with the cardboard 2 by 2s I'd use the ones that you staple together. Its said that the self adhesive ones the glue thats used in them could affect the coins in time. Im not sure though because I've never used them. I use the 2 by 2s that have to be stapled or the flips.
That's a big subject, so I'll just address one small area. I like "holding" my coins, but I know that can damage them. while 2x2's are very good for album pages or even lining up in those cardboard cases, I really like handling my coins. So if I have a coin I know I'm gonna want to look at a lot in the future, I get it into an Air-Tite Direct-Fit holder. If you search on e-bay, you can get them for like 30 cents each or so. And for everything up to a silver dollar, you can actually put the air-tite into a dollar 2x2 holder if you want to protect the air-tite. I don't really consider value when determining what should go in the air-tite, but how much I will be handling it in the future. So yes, even a 2007-D dime could go in an air-tite if I think i'll be looking at it alot!
i use stapled 2x2's - at 3.5 cents each, they are a bargain. i see coins priced from $0.10 to $5000.00 in them at nearly every show. they work and are easy to use. -steve
I think ALL cardboard 2x2's do not contain PVC. Plastic flips on the other hand have been known to contain PVC...even ones made today. I like Kointains, though they are hard to stack or organize unless you have those trays with 2x2 (or smaller) dividers for them to fit in.
