    Hi,
I was wondering (since I am new to coin collecting) what are your favorite holders and why. Also where do you purchase them? I received a whole bunch of coins in bags, pvc holders(I was told by a dealer a nice piece is starting to go bad in one), envelopes, and flat packs that have minsule holes(there are a couple of them that are toning). I don’t need the Cadillac of coin holders, but I also don’t want dime store qualily either. Thank you all for the help you have given me. I am discovering and learning so much since I joined this forum a little less than a week ago. Hopefully soon I won’t have add that I am new to coin collecting. ;)

I use 2x2 cardboard holders and 2x2 paper envelopes.

It really is more of a preference and how you plan to store them.

But 2x2 plastic flips with PVC are a major no-no. Non PVC are OK, which I use for ancients.

JP's Corner has the Saflips which are PVC-free. I use them for many of my coins. They are handy because each has two pockets (like saddlebags) and you can use one pocket for the cards to write info on. The Saflips will also fit in the 20-coin plastic pages they have available for binders.

If you have high value coins use air-tites. Low grade examples use flips. Often it is less expensive to simply buy at your local coin shop.
    And welcome to CoinTalk!

Another vote for the Mylar flips. That’s how the bulk of my coins are protected. They are easy to store and have the added bonus of a space to add an information card if you desire.

My preferred holders for raw coins are Air-Tites. I think they provide better protection than most other options, and with the foam inserts in 1 mm increments, they can fit any coin precisely.

I buy them from JP's Corner, but there are several other reliable sources.

Air-Tites aren't the cheapest holders available by a long shot, but I subscribe to the notion that if a coin is worth keeping, it's worth protecting. If I'm not willing to spend 65 cents for an Air-Tite, then I dump the coin.
