Was this the hoard that was kept secret for awhile (so the archaeologists could properly conduct the dig)?
I believe it was - although that has become fairly standard practice over here. We have a huge community of metal detectorists now, and if they get wind of a good find, the less principled of them will take whatever they can get. I believe they are nicknamed "Night Hawks" as they typically work without permission under cover of darkness. We get hoards reported in the press regularly here now - on average one a month. If people are interested I will post here whenever I see one? Paddy
