Anyone interested in doing a coin exchange type of program? I think it would give some coin collectors out there a chance to collect coins they wouldnt normall buy or think of. This was my idea of how it would work, you post if your interested and what value your willing to trade for. Then you PM the person you feel you want to "swap" with and you exchange addresses to ship to and then post pictures of what you picked up when they arrive! Any interest? I'm willing to trade for a coin or coins with a value of $75 but anyone willing to participate but want to do a smaller value as long as both parties agree thats fine with me!
With all of the recent discussions about deadbeat CT members, you may want to reconsider this . Use the forum as it was intended, as a source of obtaining information and sharing information. You may be opening a big can of worms with this. Just my thoughts . I'll decline to participate .
Well it would obviously take some common sense on who you choose to "swap" with. Or just choose a smaller value? I was also not aware there were issues with trust on this site with other members...
i did a thread recently on this subject and there was some interest i would deffinatly be willing to take part
I've been pondering the idea of a random scramble exchange. General concept, get a number of members to each send me one item valued about $5.00. Draw addresses out of a hat (keeping track of who sent what, so as to not send them their own submission). Ship each item out to its destination. The recipient would have no idea what he was getting but would know that it is worth the same as what he submitted, so its fair. As you say might get something interesting that he wouldn't otherwise normally collect. Just an idea still in the works. I think it'd be fun.
There are. Read Peters thread, multiple problems . Common sense is part of the problem. The other being , you don't know whether your communicating with a 12 year old or an 80 year old . Do as you wish. When one is swaping COINS, all sorts of things can happen .
Ok well in in for $50 to start if anyone wants to give it a go send me a PM and we can start there. Keep it on a more smaller scale (less shipping expenses) one on one. If there are any issues that the suggestion that bls suggested to have a sort "hub" operation where one person collects and then sends out at random would be used. But i think that for now a one on one PM situation would work out better for just the few members that want to partake. It also allows the other one to ask questions as far what do you collect what would you prefer (raw, slabbed, nickels, dimes, quarters, morgans, peace dollars, grades, etc) so that the person recieving wouldn't be dissappointed... Just a thought!
if any one is still interested i am after a buffalo nickle. nothing special just one in reasonable condition i have lots of world/uk stuff that i could swap for it so if any one is interseted please let me know
There are many "good collectors" pages. You can check my site for a list of people whom I have traded coins successfully. All them are very nice and honest people. Unfortunately right now I'm not trading due economical issues, but in the future I'd be more than pleased to trade some pieces with you.
calumsherwood brings up an interesting thought. these dont have to be worth much but different places have different treasures. i dont think i will ever find an indian head cent in canada (although one member did) or a 43 steel cent, or buffalo nickle, or old american bills. and then people in us or uk will probably never get a canadian $1bill or even loonie in their country. im talking only circulation finds.
we get some real oddities turning up in our change in the UK, i was given a swaziland lillangeni in my change a while back, it is the same size weight and colour as a pound coin.
i was thinking it might be better to list what you are willing to trade on here so everyone can see it, and then if someone has something they think might be worth trading for it, the pm s could start. (i know i said pms) lol. hopefully this will actually be fun. i havent checked if i have doubles of anything, but to start off with, i could offer any current canadian coin or bill up for trade. soon we will have polymer bills here. if your just looking for a coin of a certain year to complete a set, i have quite a few doubles of circulated cents (1920's on) nickles (1940's on) etc. nothing really special. that being said, once i have a canadian set of both of those, i would like to make american sets. moneyer.. unfortunately i dont know much about world coins, but i do have a few. i will check if i have any doubles. like most of us, i know about my own country, and us currency.
Good idea! Here's a list that i can remember right off the top of my head: Morgans: (keep in mind i'd like to do as close to equal value trade as possiable) 1880-O MS-65 ICG (looks closer to MS-62 at best) 1886-O ANACS AU-50 1886-O ANACS AU-55 cleaned 1893-s in PCGS G-6 1904-S raw in VF-20 Condition (also have an extra one raw in EF-45+ condition, but would have to be a convencing offer, as im pretty attached to this one sentimentally) Lots of various dates and mint marks that are worth about melt... (ask for particular dates and MM's and grades and i'll let you know if i can help you out!) Peace dollars: Several slabbed in ANACS as MS-63 and some in MS-64. The MS-63 dates and MM's are as follows: 22, 22-D, 23, 24, 25, 27 MS-64 are as follows: 22, 23, 24, 26 And i have the follow "higher value" peace dollars: 1921 in AU-50 1923 in MS-66 1928 in PCGS EF-40 (gonna be another one that hards to part with) And i have the follow raw coins: - About 70 V-nickels from FR-VF condition (willing to throw the whole lot of nickels in one trade)! - Flying eagle cents: 1857 in G-8; 1858 in G-8ish (small letters) - Two cent peices: 3- 1865's in G, VG, and VG condition - 1865 Three cent peice (nickel) with a slightly porus obverse in VG+ condition - 1911 V-nickel in VF-20 - A tube of 18 kennedy half dollars various dates in AU- high end MS no two like dates and there are no silver to these ones. - A roll of 90% silver halves (some kennedys, Walking Liberties, Bens, and i believe a barber half) - A roll of UNC. 1996 Silver Eagles (will split into singles) - A few mint sets: 1982-P and D Qty. 3 1983-P and D Qty. 2 2000 thru 2009 Commoratives: 1982-S George Washington half dollar Proof with original box and paper work A few others i cant remember off the top of the head... I post later tommorow Some currency: - About 40 silver certificate $1 bills various condition and dates, but most are common (only worth a few bucks). - Some red seal $2 bills cant remember dates but common as well (worth about $8 each). - 1934 $500 bill (gonna be hard to part with as well) - Uncut sheet of $1 bills (32 count) in the BEP original package - 1957 Silver cert. star note fairly circulated shape but no tears. Ok thats what i have on hand to look at without going down stairs and thats what i can remember off teh top of my head. Anyone interested let me know!
i've got 5 UK commemorative 50p coins for exchange: 2006 both VC commemoratives, 2005 johnsons dictionary 2000 british libraries 2004 four minute mile commemorative....... i also have a 2006 brunel (arches) £2 piece.. any decent offer??
ok i have some duplicates of these. they are not worth anything, but if you just want one cause its different, then i would be willing to trade for the same. the only other thing i would like is a 43 steel us cent. also as i said before, i have pretty much any recent canadian coin or bill,(but i havent checked exactly what i have). let me know if there is anything specific you are looking for. these are the same diameter as a loonie, but about twice as thick.
