I have a 2005 West Virgina quarter. The rim on the top of the reverse side is smooth and the state name is really hard to see. Is this a Error or did it happen post mint?

I say it is PMD. It is very unlikely that half of the die will deteriorate while the other half does not at the same pace.

I also don't know that much about error coins, but this looks post mint to me also. And by the way Anjee... welcome to CoinTalk!

Yea sorry Anjee, definitively Post mint the only thing that makes me think otherwise is the lack of tooling marks and the copper layer is not showing through the nickel. Any change you can take a high resolution picture?

What's the other side of the coin look like. If you can post a pic of it. By the way your pics are prety good for a phone, they are plenty big enough, maybe need a little more light.
    By the way, welcome!
