It would be helpful if you would post clear photos of both sides of the coin (the full image) and a close up of the date and mintmark. As it is we don't even know the date of the coin.
Most likely, your coin is just damaged from circulation. If you post photos (click on upload a file) we can take a look for you. Even if there’s some sort of error, the cent is likely not to have much value to it.
