Is there a premium if you have an entire collection of a certain era or is the collection worth by the value of the individual coins themselves ?
In general, if the coins are really nice then there might be a premium for a complete niche collection. In practice, almost no collections are built with really nice coins top to bottom.
I agree. You have to put together something extraordinary usually. A large part of this is the nature of coin collecting. Most wish to COLLECT, not OWN really. The chase is a large part of it, so if you have a complete collection most people who really desire those coins already have a lot of them. They don't need your whole collections, just parts. So, the highest overall price is almost always with it broken up.
