    Hello,

I posted about this project back when I was getting started, so I won't reiterate all of the background information. Here is a link to the old thread:

    https://www.cointalk.com/threads/guide-book-for-my-coin-collection.389861/

I managed to complete a draft of the book, here is a link:

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/14bQB3B91xQ8dxoCAqN41FopgtFMx5RYe/view?usp=sharing

Again, I had to upload it in pdf because Google Docs screws up the formatting in the .docx document. If any of you would like the editable Word version then just shoot me a PM and I'll email it to you.

Also figured I'd provide an updated picture of the collection. I've since improved the labeling system to provide more information, and have made quite a bit of progress in filling some empty slots :smug:.

Anyway, I know that the guide book is probably TLDR for most people (will probably also be the case for my friends and family for which it was intended :(). But I wanted to share in case any of you found it useful/interesting.

Also, I want to reiterate the disclaimers in case any do not see the previous thread:

    - In one sense, I'm shooting for historical accuracy, so if I've completely misstated something factual then I'd like to know (wrong date, wrong person, etc.). In another sense, I am going for sensationalism to make the experience interesting for the reader. When it comes to the more outlandish and questionably factual stories, I just state them without pretext. I do not do a lot of "this probably didn't happen, but" or "this was probably made-up to tarnish blah blah".

    - I made this for my own use. I straight up lifted pictures off the internet and pasted them in there without attribution. I also got all of my information online (Primarily Wikipedia), and while I attempted to summarize and put things in my own words, I wasn't terribly concerned about avoiding plagiarism.

Edit: I added the Word version to Google Drive. It's messed up if you view in in the Google interface, but it should be fine if you download and view it on your machine.

That's really nice. I have been thinking about doing something similar.

Feel free to use mine, or modify it to suit your needs. If you make some improvements then feel free to share, it'd be cool to generate useful tools, resources, and collection accessories through community effort :).

I added a link to the Word document in the OP. If you download it and have problems then let me know.

That is a really cool book. You can tell a lot of work went in to it.

Why didn't you include pictures of the coins in the book? That would really tie the narrative to the objects.

Thanks a lot, and ya, it was a lot of work. It's been right at a year since I started and I'd estimate that I've spent something like 250-300 hours on it. It started feeling a bit like work toward the end, but all in all I did it because I enjoyed it.

Plus, I learned a ton about the people on my coins, which to me is the majority of the interest in collecting them in the first place.

I considered doing something like that as part of the book. But in the end, I figured that having pictures of my coins would ultimately detour people from actually looking at my coins. Which, would kind of defeat the point.

I do plan to do a systematic, high-quality documentation of the collection with photos at some point (I have photos of all of them, just missing the "quality"), so something like that might be coming anyway. After all, now that the book is done, I need something else to move onto!

If it was me I would include photos at the end. Kind of like an old school plated auction catalog. That way could include reference numbers for the photos and then the viewer could decide if they are going to flip to the back to look at them.

When I get around to doing mine it be kind of a hybrid version of what you did and what I describe. My collection is much less focused than yours.

As a newcomer to collecting ancient coinage I thank you. A very enjoyable read.
