Hi guys, Me again with yet another question I found some software programs to hel coin collectors to catalogue their coins. Problem is that al the software i found is for Windows and i dont do Windows (im a Linux user) I tought of creating something by myself, but i failed You guys know of any good Linux software? Thanks
Try http://tellico-project.org/ It's not coin specific as it can be used to catalog just about anything you collect. Only downside is, it's built against KDE which I usually don't bother with myself, but having a few extra libs and packages to support doesn't hurt. I haven't used this software myself though. Welcome fellow Linux user, I think we're a rare breed on a coin forum and or as coin collectors.
yeah, i think w are a rare breed, but not only on this forum Most people who ask what kind of windows version i use dont even know what i am talking about whet i start about linux
didnt manage to run Tellico But i made my own document to help me catalogue my coins now. But i have the feeling i am missing something important that also needs to be in the document but i have no idea what In the attachement is my document. Its simple but i think with a little tweaking it will do its work
How about VMWare/VirtualBox to run Windows from inside Linux? Unless you got an issue with Windows license (which costs plenty and you don't want to buy one), it would be an acceptable solution, modern hardware would allow you to run virtual OS without any problem.
i have a windows running in Virtualbox But i never use it Its on the computer becouse sometimes i just cant get passed something without using windows. But if i dont need to use it, i dont use it
Nope, don't do it. There's really no reason to ever use Windows in my opinion, especially if you only need to use one program that might only run on it. Did you take a peek at the software I linked to? It seems adequate enough to use to categorize and maintain your collection. If I had a desire to use something to do this for me besides using my mind to store the info, I really like how you can create your own fields. Open Source software is the best, if you don't like something, well, change it yourself to suit your needs.
yeah i looked at that link, downloaded it installed it but i ant get it to work :s but then again, thats why i made that document, to catalogue them like that, then i dont need windows either
Mostly Fedora, since I deal with Red Hat and CentOS at my job. I like using what's close to what I have to work with. At home, I use Slackware for the most part.
Rodeo do you have your RHCE since your work with it? or how did you happen to come to work with it? Koen do you just use it at home or do you also use Linux where you are employed? ( If that makes any sense ) again not to hijack the thread, just get excited when someone else says they use linux/OS X.
unfortunatly at work we need to work with windows. Becouse some programs that we use are not Linux made we have to At home i use Linux on my PC and laptop The computers at work are crashing at least once per day i never had a crash with linux yet
Yeah I always like that and think its funny when a linux or a mac can be up and running for over a year without being shutoff....try that with windows
Nope, I already have enough experience that trumps any silly certification, it'd be wasting my money honestly at this point. I've been using Linux since around 1997, dropped Windows completely around 2001 or so, never looked back. Worked my way up the ladder over the past 12 years to gain experience to get where I'm at now, working with Linux/Unix, etc. Self taught for the most part, by just using it.
