Ruben, I know you have at least one of your kids that is avid, and perhaps two. All mine have little to absolute zero interests in coins, the four year old shows promise though.
Force would be a strong word, encouraged would be more appropriate. Only the four year old shows promise, she does love the sound of silver, really likes gold and hoards whatever she can get her little paws on.
I do that too, but don't have a running total. Be careful looking in payphone return slots, could be a needle in there! Always take a penny that looks interesting and coinstar and soda/candy machines have been good to me as well. I always return with something. By gas pumps are nice as well. Another thing is discarded electronics. Keep a knife or good pair of scissors in the car and when you see some electronics in the trash, hop out and cut off the copper wire, monitors are the heaviest I have sound so far!
