Anyone ever had one of these? Got it for $5 at auction. Sadly it was originally made to hold silver coins. Someone replaced it with clad, but it looks pretty spiffy for $5.
Yep.. I bought a similar one at a yard sale a few years back for $20, but the coins were all silver (uncirculated '64's). All that's left is a broken clock.
detecto no offense but you consistently post some of the worst threads on this site.....you post random things just to get a response that usually have little to no point at which point you abandon your posts.......but to answer your question, no I have never had one.
You could always engage the 'ignore' function. That way you wouldn't have to read any more of his threads. Interesting clock OP........
If I made a clock like that why not put a quarter at the 15 minute marks, and the halves at the 30 minute marks. It makes no sense to me! lol. Starting at 12 I'd go half, nickel dime, quarter, nickel, dime, half, nickel, dime, quarter, nickel, dime.
In this forum, it says right at the top: [h=1]Forum: Coin Chat[/h]Please use this section for discussion of numismatic topics that don't fit in other sections.
It is kind of an interesting clock to have. Don't know that I would want one for me, but I can see how someone who likes coins might like it.
agreed.. if all you are going to do is bring someone down perhaps you may want to consider not posting. People are entitled to post their coin and things regarding coins. I know i am new here but if its attitutes like yours i may not be around long.
I'll have to remember this, if I see something at a garage sale like this and look at the dates. If they are all 1964's (like what I suspect they would be originally when sold) then their melt value for silver would be (today's value) 53.69. Now that definitely would be worth paying 5 dollars for. I bet there are people who would sell these who have no idea of the silver value and think they are getting the better deal because they got 5.00 for 2.30 worth of coins. And if Detecto liked the clock and it was worth the extra (non coin-value) of 2.70 to have a working clock, that's great. For a small desk or wall clock, nowadays, that's actually pretty cheap.
The clock might have been a better fit for the exonumia thread he started not long ago. http://www.cointalk.com/t203005/
You can't. The coins are set in from the back. They kept sliding through the two sheets of lexan. However the edges of the sheet are glued. I had to press the coins in. No way to take them out without damaging the holders. If I had the extra $$$ I would put a franklin half on one side, a barber half on the other. Then half and half mercury dimes and Roosevelt silver dimes. I would put a Barber Quarter on top and then a SLQ on the bottom.
Excuse me but the original post in this thread is clearly on topic - it's a COIN CLOCK for heaven's sake!
That poster is not representative to the great members of CT and they're lack of understanding and knowing members here, because they are quite new as well, should not be a deterrence to your participation.
Remember them? They still sell them - Amazon, Walmart, etc. You can even get them with paper currency embedded in the lid.
