The Reagan Coin Chronicle is soon to be issued, what are your feelings, is having the complete set worth the effort to collect them all. Personally once I dive in, it's complete or nothing. Thanks, enjoy your Sunday and Tom Brady's Return to The NFL...
By any chance, do you remember the "American Legacy" sets that were issued beginning in 2005? They were priced at $135 to begin and were finally cancelled about 2007. Now, you're lucky to get $75 for them. Chris
If you want to collect them all, then collect them all, but be aware that mint issued collectibles tend to lose value over time more often than not.
It's a question of: They would have to find me, not me looking to find them. I have only the Lincoln set, and at the most, I might buy another one. I would spend my money on upgrading my classic coins rather than buying the Chronicle Sets.
If you like the series yes it is a cool little set. If you mean worth it from a will increase in value standpoint probably not they basically ruined what should have been the two homeruns with mintages that were far to high.
If you like it, buy it. I would *not* buy it as an investment, and I would not expect to recover all of the money you'll put into it - but if you enjoy the set, then does it matter? A lot of these types of sets are sold at higher prices than they are worth because of marketing. Once the marketing and hype subsides, you'll find very few people interested in buying them. Just being realistic. But again, if you like it, buy it.
@The Oddsbreaker..........Were you in from the beginning? If not, wait a spell for the aftermarket to settle down with these things. They're still getting 'ridiculous' money for the Trumans.
That right there is the best justification for any of them. In the best case, we collect what we like and the "investment value" (although important) ought to be secondary. Collect coins with discretionary income, not investment income.
But there is an ASE.........fitting, I think, since the bullion program started under his tenure. [I would have liked to have seen an silver medal in the set too 'D']
I own S-o-o-o-o many US Mint Losers that were popular for a time that its actually embarrassing! Franklin Coin & Chronicles, Lewis and Clark, and now these Presidential Coin & chronicles Sets. I recently sold my Truman Set for a couple of hundred but the Eisenhower Set just sat there at $225, then $200, then $195. The Kennedy's sold and I lost some money on them. I still have Johnson,s and the FDR Set is just going to sit there. I did make money on the Truman and IKE sets having been able to order 5 of each but once they started screwing with the mintages, the bottom just fell complete;ly out of the aftermarket. With the Reagan sets at a 150,000 unit mining limit, I'll be surprised if they even sell out! Not to mention the fact that the Reagan coin is just butt ugly! Reagan "may" have been a popular President but then Kennedy was way more popular. His pieces didn't sell out and actually dropped from the original issue prices. With the Reagan Sets at $11.00 more than previous sets, I think folks will be extremely lucky to ever recover that cost.
The only Modern Mint issue I own is the 2015 March of Dimes set. It commemorates an issue which is of great personal meaning to me, and I'd have paid whatever the hell the asking price was. The fact that it was, instead, a present from my best friend moves it into the space of "You will pry this from my cold dead hands." I do not care what it's "worth."
Hi Chris yes I do remember that line, funny thing when I began collecting The US Mint Sets back to 1955 - present, I then had to include everything else like the Prestige,Silver Set,Silver Limited just like to make things complete as I can. TY
Hi Green: No I wasn't and yes that is some crazy money for Truman and I think The IKe's too, good idea on waiting those out. TY
I probably will buy The Reagan from Mint and wait on the others like The Truman & Ike to come down. Many good replies thanks...
I don't know, at Ike's low mintage (less than 17k) and low price (less than $100), I'll buy 1 Reagan and buy more Ikes. Actually, Ike is the key, as after returns, it sold slightly less than Truman.
If one was waiting on buying the Proof Silver Eagle, then this set is decently priced. For $15 over the price of the Eagle one receives a reverse proof Reagan dollar and a bronze medal (however, if you think the Eagle is overpriced and weren't looking to buy one, then this set is also overpriced).
