Hi all, I have 2 older editions of beginner's books for new collectors of ancient coins. The first book is the 1981 edition of David Sear's Roman Coins and their Values. The second book is Reading and Dating Roman Imperial coins by Zander Klawans.

To be eligible you must be a new collector (less than one year). You also must have posted to at least one of my threads on the ancients board.

To enter, please reply to this message with your intent to enter. If you are underaged you must get your parents permission to enter. You must enter before 8pm tomorrow.

I will select the winners at random tomorrow night after 8pm. Each winner will receive one book (I will select which one).

For reasons of shipping charges I would like to limit participants to North America.

Having a book giveaway is a gift that keeps on giving for the life of the collector. Very generous of you @Orfew!

Edit to clarify: Not an entry, just a cudos.

I guess many beginners here already know all they wish or do some have parents who do not know they are participating here?
Is it the books or if we were giving free coins, would this line cancel the interest?

When I offered to give (low value) coins to young numismatists on the list there was one who could not get his parents to give permission for him to tell me his postal address. That may have been an excess of caution, but I could not send him anything without an address.

Carausius Brother, can you spare a sestertius?

Klawans book Reading and Dating Roman Imperial Coins is extremely helpful and informative to a beginning collector of Roman Imperial coins. It was one of my first ancient coin book purchases nearly 40 years ago! I recommend it highly. I suppose much of the information can now be found online; but this book lays it out, without searching, from an authoritative source. I learned more about understanding the coins from the small Klawans book than I ever learned from matching coins to Sear numbers.

I must say I am disappointed in how this giveaway has worked out. I expected more participation. One of the participants has decided to try to take advantage of my generosity, and so I am ending this giveaway.

In the future I will simply contact people I feel might like the books and will give them privately. I probably should have done this originally, but I thought this might be fun. I was wrong.

    :( I'm so sorry, Orfew.

You put great effort into the giveaway, which was an awesome idea.

Books are definitely an important part of this hobby. I really appreciate and constantly refer to the books I have.

Your generosity definitely hasn't gone unnoticed.

You're a great asset to this forum and I'm glad you're here with us!

    Thank you for your generosity!

Orfew, don't be downtrodden, it is very nice of you to offer these books! I did not enter because I like up the odds of others to win:)

Well, that's a bummer. Here's a super awesome coin I got from Orfew that I really appreciate.
