Hi everyone this is my first post. I just started getting into coin collecting earlier this year and have started building my collection. I have a couple of folders to put them in but am going to upgrade to some albums soon. I have seen some albums put out by Cornerstone that are amazingly beautiful but do not have a huge selection to choose from right now (I understand they are working on it). Does anyone have a particular favorite brand or album that they enjoy? Thank you.
My favorite is the old Library of Coins album. There are some still around. Dansco makes a pretty good product.
I'm partial to Dansco albums myself. I like the way they display the coins with obverse and reverse nicely visible. They're easy to find, inexpensive, and protect the coins rather well, as long as you store them in a dry place.
Yeah i like that too, the only reason I like what i have seen with the Cornerstone is how beautiful they are on the inside with all the stories about the coins and the person featured on it, kind of a historical perspective and also a safe place to keep your coins. However I just don't know how sturdy they will be compared to Dansco or others. Wondering if anyone has used Cornerstone and what they think of it. Thanks for the input though, I may end up going with Dansco.
I use Dansco myself, just because they have a decent price and wide selection. I have had some of the blue Whitmans, and they fell apart. They were older, but I don't think they should have fallen apart. I have seen old Danscos, and they didn't seem to have a problem. Intercept albums seem nice too, but I have never had one. I have never heard of Cornerstone... I'll have to google it. Welcome!
Thanks! I first saw the Cornerstone albums by chance at Hobbytown. They are actually produced by zyrus press.
Where is a good website that sells the air tite albums? I would like to start putting my American Eagles in there.
I buy it from ebay seller jpscorner. Look up what airtites' you use and get the appropriate air tite, my coins are typically 14-26 mm so i use A class albums. His auction listing http://www.ebay.com/itm/Airtite-Album-Model-/220844900930?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item336b61c242#ht_1137wt_1396
All the coins in my albums are in 2x2's placed in 20 pocket BCW polypropylene pages in 3-ring binders. My IKE's are in 2 1/2 X 2 1/2's in 9 pocket BCW poly pages in a 3-ring binder. There is less danger of scratching proof coins using this method than by using Dansco or Intercept albums. My Roosies were in them for twenty or more years and got scratched and scuffed by them. Also the plastic scratched and that made it had to see. Tried cleaning the plastic, no help.
I've never heard of Cornerstone albums before now, but if you decide to use them make sure that the materials used for the album are archival quality and don't contain things like PVC (plastic slides) or sulphur (cardboard pages). Sometimes off-brand companies will use cheaper materials to save on cost. Chris
I generally use Dansco branded albums, they provide a nice look to the coins and are crafted of good materials. When I was younger, I loved Whitman's.
This was a hands-on review I did of 3 coin album brands (dansco, intercept, and littleton) ... I didnt do cornerstone http://www.cointalk.com/t152591/
I go with Intercept shield. Supposed to help protect MS coins from toning. So far so good. I don't think the other brands can do that for you. It seems like not many people go with them though.
Most of my coins are of the Good to Fine variety Cents, Nickles, dimes and quarters. I also have a growing collection of half-dollars and dollars. So a little bit of everything. My next focus is to complete a set and then slowly improve the quality of it as funds permit. The first one i will probably try to complete is either the Indian Heads (unlikely with a few of the more rare ones) or the wheat cents (much more likely). After that probably do the Jefferson Nickles and then the Franklin Halves.
OK, thanks for the answer. Here's why I was asking - it's because MS and Proof coins, in my opinion, should never be put in an album of any kind. Nor should any high dollar coin of any grade.
Doug, What are you saying? High value coins only into Airtites or slabs? What about 2x2's with Mylar then into a slotted chemical and acid free box?
