I made the first coin purchase that I feel I got hosed on over the weekend. I bought a 1995 ASE at a coin shop from a display case just to fill a spot in my type album. It looked good in the subdued lighting at the coin shop...(sigh) When I got home and really got a chance to see it in the light, it looks a little "cloudy," especially on the back...blotchy, kind of like a soap residue on a window. The actual features of the coin are fine, no scratches, it's just not evenly shiny. Can somebody give a theory on this? Was the coin badly cleaned at some point? Or is this a type of tarnish? I know, I know...a pic would be great, but my digital cam is kaput. I was bummed out though..that's the first coin I officially feel like I got screwed on. I paid $20 for it...
That's not a bad price. It probably went through some sort of cleaning, to get that cloudiness effect. That normally happens to proof coins if they were not cleaned properly. I don't think you got jipped, but you didn't exactly get a good deal. BTW, is it a proof or an UNC.? Phoenix
If you don't like the coin, return it. Because if you don't like it now, you're gonna like it even less 6 months from now. I'm not really sure what you mean by "cloudy", but on an Unc ASE there is no reason for it unless the coin was messed with. And they're easy enough to find at any coin shop for the same price. Go get another one
Yep, I've seen a few of these somewhat cloudy or milkspotted... Even in higher grade PCGS slabs... :hammer:
take it back, if the dealer knows you well it should be no problem, if he doesn't and you have a receipt also no problem
