Well phooey.... I was gonna jump in on this one for the old Cob because everyone knows that I am a closet pirate..... However I will cede my opportunity to DongDong. He now has an additional shot at the old Cob.

Fine, you gave him an extra chance, and now, with this post, I'll give YOU an extra chance, so now he's got two chances at it and you have one. ;)

Perhaps I should explain why I am such a stickler for that third rule in the intro, which I include in all my "pick your prize" contests- and also why from now on I will disqualify any future entries that disregard it.

By making contestants not only pick a prize, but also say WHY they chose it, I force them to think a little bit about the selection, and to explain that thought process.

(Now, you could just say "because I like it", but that's kind of a cop-out.)

Requiring that also gives me some information on what people like- and why they like what they do. It helps for when I shop for future giveaway prizes, and it allows me to see what prizes are more popular.

It's not like I require you to jump through a lot of hoops to enter the contest. There are no quizzes or guessing games in these "pick your prize" contests. And you do not need any special numismatic knowledge. And unlike most giveaways, I'm offering you a choice. So clue us in on how you came to make that choice.

Since I devote hundreds of hours and dollars to these contests over the course of a year, this is what I get for that investment, you see. It's more fun for me that way.

Hosting a contest that requires no special thought from the contestants, where they could just post a one- or two-word reply and then shuffle off into the sunset with no further participation... well, that is just not as much fun for me, as the donor.

See where I'm comin' from? ;)

Take a minute or two to read the instructions, folks! And thanks.

New prize just added to the Giveaway Gallery, with many more to come! :)

(Remember, if you win the drawing, and you wish to change your already-posted selection to one of the newer items at the end, you will have the chance to do that, later.)

Just yesterday and today I bought six ancients, one late-medieval coin, the porcelain medal below, as well as four more Morgan dollars (one slabbed), two US commemoratives, and a slabbed Silver Eagle. So stay tuned- I'm working on replenishing and updating the "free store" (Giveaway Gallery) for a bigger selection.

Germany (Löbau): 1921 brown gilt porcelain medal, 700th anniversary
    [IMG]

This handsome gilt brown porcelain medal was issued in 1921 for the 700th anniversary of the German city of Löbau in the German state of Saxony, which was established in 1221.

It was produced by the famous Meissen porcelain works, whose "crossed swords" trademark is visible on the obverse.

According to the tag, it is a very scarce variety, of which only about 201 to 500 pieces were produced.

It is quite large- slightly bigger around than a United States Silver Eagle or British Crown coin- and somewhat thick, too.

    42 mm, Scheuch variety 1829d, Rarity-8.

Ex- Ephesus Numismatics, 2 December 2024, with their tag.

I’d like to enter for the 1793-S half real, and here’s a couple of reasons I find it so interesting.
    1. I currently don’t have any 18th-century coinage in my collection. While I’ve managed to acquire pieces from both earlier and later periods, this century remains a blank spot, and this coin would be an incredible way to fill it.
    2. Spanish silver has always fascinated me. I own a Mexican 1/2 real from the 1800s that I picked up at a coin show, but owning a slabbed 18th-century coin would take my collection to the next level.
    3. The Gold Shield and PCGS TrueView are fantastic touches that add both authenticity and aesthetic appeal to the coin.
Fun fact, Spanish silver served as legal tender in the United States until 1857.

Wow, not only gave the “why”, but went into more detail than was required!

I would like to enter for the 1896 Morgan dollar please. I don't have one of any date and this is something I feel needs correcting.

Thanks as always for the opportunity. :)

I am quite grateful, thank you for the extra entry.
I knew I wanted this coin but didn't know why I liked it so much, so I did a little research to find out more about this coin, and learned a few cool facts about it so I'd have a reason to like it more... :)

The morgan dollar, as my 3-yr old son likes coins. I hope to one day turn him into a collector. This one is big enough for him to swallow by mistake, and bigger is always more interesting!

I assume you want the 1896 Morgan dollar, then, and not the 1921-S Morgan that’s paired with a slick Peace dollar?

Actually, there’s about to be three or four more Morgans added to the giveaway store by the time of the drawing (maybe even tonight!), so if you win the drawing, we’ll sort out which one you want later.

Y’know, that is yet another reason I’m asking folks the “why” question. Maybe someone will see a prize they like, but didn’t know they liked until they saw it. And that expands their horizons a tiny bit, whether they win the contest or not.

And that is cool, if you ask me. :)
