    What would you call this clipped, chipped planchet? Most of want I have see are straight or circled not jagged.

    This is PMD..someone cut it with a tool of some sort.

    Most (not all though) clipped planchets (more correctly termed incomplete planchets) will display do varying degrees what is known as the Blakesley affect which is the pole opposite the clip often shows a weak or absent rim.

    Most likely cut with a pair of wire cutters or bolt cutters.

    Keep searching. They're out there. I found a nice ChAU merc with a 5% clip in some junk silver earlier this year.

    Don't be disappointed...keep looking you'll find something eventually. If you get tired of looking move on to a different type of collecting...there are tons of niches in collecting coins.

    If you went through 4K wheaties, did you at least save one of each to fill up some Whitman folders?

    I love the Wheat cents and actually plan on keeping all of them for my 2 sons. Hoping that they will get into coin collecting down the road. I do need to get more coin books though. Thanks for your encouragement.
