I purchased a bulk set of wheat pennies and found this one in them. It seems pretty cool, but it's not in the best shape (maybe VG). Any information on what caused this, and how much it's worth would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

Nice find! Not worth a whole lot.... maybe a buck or two to another collector. If you check the "search" button and put in clipped planchet, you'll find other examples, some with an explanation of how it happens.

    Also, check "Blakesley Effect".

This site shows why it happens:

Nice find. The clip seems to be at about 8 o'clock. Some folks like to do a whole clock for each date. Try it you may enjoy it...

That's a really nice find. I imagine someone would take it for $5 on ebay if that was the starting price. The majority are just insignificant rim clips, so this is pretty sizable as far as clips go.

Cool looking clip. I almost bought one the other day that had three differant clips on the cent. It went for more than what I wanted to pay but it was a ver cool looking coin.
