Put another cent in that spot. I’m sure it’s an incomplete planchet or a curved clip. Nice looking for it’s age.
I don't see any Blakesley effect at all, and I'd expect to for a clip of this size (although, not guaranteed). The pictures are too blurry to really identify diagnostics of a fake. Is it possible to get pictures in-focus?
I do have to concur. The clip doesn't seem large enough to not have the Blakesley effect. There is weakness though that is associated with BE on the rim and dentils.
I apologize for the photos, I'll try to take better and include the edge. Not even sure where I bought this, but think I picked it out of a bowl or $0.95 Indians.
@Kentucky As I said, try this. I knew I had a photo and just found it. Even a small clip on an incomplete planchet will work as indicated in my photo.
That sir it positive proof it’s a curved clip on an incomplete planchet. A very nice error on an older coin.
Matching up a curved clip to a normal coin doesn't prove anything in terms of identifying a curved clip as genuine. I own many curved clips that through metal flow have become grossly distorted.
