OK folks I picked up two more for the Bolivian collection today from the Bolivian Bonanza. Not as nice as the 8 Soles I got last week but got them at melt. First a 4 Soles http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/forums/4solo.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/forums/4solr.jpg The second is a Half Melgarejo. I picked this one up for the history if nothing else. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/forums/malo.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/forums/malr.jpg Did a little reading on Mariano Melgarejo and seems he wasn't the nicest guy in the world nor was he especially helpful to Bolivia as a nation. Here's a link to him on Wiki if anyone is interersted. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mariano_Melgarejo Still may pick up a few more tidbits from this lot. Perhaps some of the Chilean or Brazilian. There was a nice 1916 Cuban Un Peso but my coworker snatched it up as he collects that stuff more than I and he gets first dibs due to seniority. I'm good with that as he's built up an impressimve collection of World coins that were minted in the U.S. A side jaunt for me but I do enjoy it from time to time. clembo
Acanthite will be all over this Clembo, I think he is out of town right now. Out of hemisphere actually
You're picking up some great coins, clembo. Bolivian coins have some great designs and are not as expensive as their Peruvian counterparts. And historically interesting, a good part of that history is quite disastrous.
With all of the south of the border coins Clembo's picked up lately, it sure looks like Clem's looking at replacing the Ms's with a lil senorita. I remember what happened the last time Clem pee'd off his wifey! Ribbit
