I have a number of coins in hard plastic capsules that have lint and other evidence of handling. I would like to give them an acetone bath while also cleaning the inner surfaces of the capsules (not the coins) to prevent further contamination. Is a lint free microfiber cloth acceptable for this? As for the acetone bath, is it OK to just let the acetone air dry or should I also use distilled water?

plastic coin capsules?? why not just purchase new capsules?? seems safer!

Plastic and different chemicals can react in weird ways, I would worry about residue left behind in the capsules.

The capsules I’m referring to are government issue for foreign coins. I’m wondering whether a freshly bought microfiber cloth would leave behind any residue providing it is lint free.

I see now, I thought you were referring to common coin capsules. I don't see why a new dry cloth would not work, good luck!
