ROFL... The pieces of gravel will do terrible damage to any coin!!!!!!!! Even if you use a soft medium like cornhusks it will still looked cleaned. I know because I’ve tried it with pocket change .
I bought a rock tumbler for clad coins I find metal detecting. Works pretty good and I dont feel to guilty putting a bunch of dirty coins back in circulation. This person is going down the wrong road for sure
I really like the title..."Cleaning coins for fun & profit" Then the instructions say 1 cup sand??? Might just as well "clean" your coins on a belt sander!!
Ughh. I cleaned a couple of Morgan's my uncle gave me before I knew any better. I still have them, but damn they look bad! Does anyone else have any coin cleaning horror stories they'd like to share? Catharsis can be good for the soul.

One comment in his Guestbook: "And all these years I've been using a belt sander to clean my coins. Thanks for showing me a better way!"
I just crack open a car battery and drop the coins it for about 1 hour. I makes them really shinny. I have often wondered why more people dont' clean this way. I have found so many struck through grease errors once the coin is cleaned. Oh well my gain huh.
I have a tumbler for my clad Detecting finds and I know dozens of poeple that do the same. Many Detector dealers sell tumblers on the side. Its the fastest way to clean dirty coins before you put them back in circulation. They end up with a nice "Matte" finish. lol
Dockwalliper---you posted that when I was on my way to say the same thing... I hear that many detecting guys use a tumbler to clean the coins that are only worth face before they put them back in change. Speedy
Cleaning coins in a rock tumbler The problem is uninformed people who read stuff like this and actually believe this is a good idea.
