I always thought this was cleaned but I wanted to confirm or negate that it was cleaned. It is a 1913 P Barber dime and I am not losing a life savings by being told it was cleaned. I paid $3 for it sight-unseen. There is a scratch through DIME and it is in fairly good shape. Any grade? Details Cleaned? Thanks Henry

the coin is cleaned because the scratches are all in on direction and they are faint(hairline scratches).

I would say the details are about fine-12, probably was a vf before someone got out the wire brush, I wonder if you carried it as a pocket piece how long it would take before the cleaning details were lost, would it go to a vg or a g? maybe ag-3?

No doubt your coin was cleaned but I do wonder if some of those marks are roller marks? Maybe someone who knows more will chime in.

The coin is a solid F-15 details but as stated is cleaned and the scratch through dime would be considered damage.

Dime would be worth around $6.00 in F15. The fact that it is cleaned brings the value down.
I wouldn't say you got ripped off, as we are dealing with a smaller amount of money. Once you get into nicer looking coins, or key dates, it can be a doozy, the value between cleaned, and non-cleaned.
