greetings all. do the major grading companies always list if a coin has been cleaned, ect.? i have seen them on anacs slabs before, but i saw an anacs au 53 coin in a slab that really looked odd. perhaps it was simply the photo, but i am suspicious when a coin has a strange appearance. it was an 1883-s morgan....thank you for your help....steve
Grading companies will not slab coins that have been harshly cleaned with the exception being ANACS. Many coins that are in NGC, PCGS, ICG and ANACS holders have been lightly cleaned, and this is not listed on the holder.
If you read their websites, they make no such claim. If you can find where they do indicate as such, I would definitely like to see it. They only indicate that they will not slab harshly or improperly cleaned coins, but they have slabbed some of those as well when it has suited them.
But if the coin is labeled as "details, cleaned" they will not put it in their new slabs, but will use the old style ones.
Mikjo0 Yes, you are correct, I stopped before I was finished, or, whatever.. New slab= Problem free Old style slab, new insert= problem coin
