Cleaned 1859 Indian Head Cent, Is it worth anything?

    I did not clean this coin but did the cleaning make it worth nothing?

    It has great detail but the harsh cleaning will definatlly have a negative impact on the value. Its a nice piece but I dont know where it will grade with the cleaning.

    Yes, it is worth more than 1¢ and it will not grade. It looks like AU details to me, so you are looking at XF (or a bit lower) prices. That is something around $100. Too bad it got cleaned.

    Let it sit in a nice sunny window for a year. It will tone back some but will still have a cleaned look to it. Might just not be as harsh looking.

    Giving it a good handling will help too. I have a very large copper russian coin from 1700's that was unnaturally red, it now looks great.

    Sulfur powder and mineral oil will fix it up, but if you don't know what your doing I wouldn't recommend using it. I would put it in a window sill though and flip it every couple months...
