    Hello,
I have here a Claudius Sestertius for Nero Claudius Drusus. A well known type. I have had lately some doubts about this coin, particularly due to the unusual cut of the bust. It is unlike other busts of Claudius usually seen on his sestertii. The hair style also seems a little too regular. The patina is a deep emerald green. The weigth is 27.84 grams. I would like you opinions on this coin. Any input is appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Eduard

You're right about it looking questionable. The bust looks off as well as the legends possibly.

I'd post the photos over at Ancients.info for Barry Murphy & Curtis Clay (and others) to take a look at as they have much more experience.

I am almost positive it is fake, here is a genuine example:

Portait is off as is inscriptions...they are soft...details are soft...bad hair details and face, all around bad style...dont take my word for it, get another opinion...but I am positive its not genuine. Also, the weight is low....

Thank you gentlemen for your thoughts. I did post it at an ancient coin forum, and they concurred.
This is one reason why one needs to be so careful when collecting roman coins. I thought i was well " educated" in general after collecting Imperial coinage for so long, and then this happens to me.....expensive mistake.

    Hello,

Fake or tooled, but anyway, very suspicious
BTW, Drusus, is the picture you show a coin of yours ? If it is, I'm VERY jealous

    Hello,
I was obviously pretty discouraged after hearing yours, and other peoples opinions about this coin. So i got on the phone and called the dealer who sold it to me 3 years ago.....I did manage to find him finally. This type of exchange is never easy as you may imagine, but the discussion was very civil. At the end he agreed to exchange this coin for another. And here it is: a sestertius of Marcus Aurelius, with reverse of Felicitas. I do not know if it was a fair exchange, as i did not have much choice. As it is however, overall ithink i was lucky to be able to return the Claudius. This Marcus aurelisu has a very nice obverse. The reverse is a bit less sharp, but a very nice coin overall with nice green patina. What do you think?
    Regards,
    Eduard
