I'm considering signing up for a coin dealer insurance policy with Hugh Wood (inventory + shipping protection), and am curious if others here have policies with them and what their experience has been - especially if you've ever had to make a claim. Also, any other insurers people recommend?
In 2002 my entire capped bust collection walked off. Hugh Wood treated me great--much better than my Farmer's agent did with the rest of my loss. No fuss, no muss. They simply asked for a copy of the police report and an estimate of the replacement value--no inventory needed. Two weeks later I had a check. I'm a customer for life.
I've used HWI since 2009 when I learned the hard way that I needed insurance. While I haven't filed a claim, I do still need it.
I had a (relatively) small wakeup call myself earlier this year, when I had to eat the loss of a double eagle due to chargeback fraud. It's still unclear to me whether I can even protect against that, as the HW team hedged their response to me slightly when I asked about it.
