Hi all, I'm an idiot!! Please tell me the difference between clad proof coins and non clad proof coins.????? Please don't laugh...
Clad proofs have a copper core which is clad (sandwiched between) with a copper nickel alloy. There are also 40% silver proofs, which are clad with 40% silver alloy. The silver proofs (and pre 1965) are not clad, but struck on 90% silver/ 10% copper planchets.
To make it also a little easier, think of how they used to make bumpers on cars. They were steel and then plated with Chrome. Same with many things that are layered or plated. One material on top of another. A sandwich of sorts.
