I can't believe that nobody mentioned this yet today - received in an email from Numismatic News "The executive director of the American Numismatic Association, Chris Cipoletti, was put on paid administrative leave by unanimous vote of the new board of governors in its first meeting Aug. 12." There may be a coin god after all
Ia that the same guy related to the resurants? If so, he was indited for some kind of fruad as I recall about a week ago. Ruben
What I've always thought was humorous was in any story when they say "PAID LEAVE" Maybe it's just me but if anyone told me to go on a PAID LEAVE, I'd say fantastic, great, wonderful. Then just have fun. PAID?? I don't get it. This just doesn't happen to people like me I guess. In the real world when you told to leave, layed off, fired, get out, etc. your just gone. No PAID LEAVE stuff.
FINALLY! A Board with guts! I was at the dinner, and that idiot Horton gave him an award for his services. Imagine if you got an award for just doing your job! There was applause, but it was muted. However, there was a lot of applause (I started it) when the new President announced open communications. We can only hope.
I was at the dinner as well, and happened to be sitting between Chet Krause and Cliff Mishler at my table. The shock and disgust when Horton gave Chipoletti that award was very apparent. There was certainly an apparent split, as a small group of Chipoletti supporters gave hime a standing ovation. Everyone seemed pretty excited on Sunday when the word got out that they had taken action on Chipoletti. I think Ken Hallenbeck will do a great job in the time that he is in the position. He is a lifelong and dedicated numismatist and dealer.
I have only met Chris on one brief occasion and he seemed like a good guy, that said I am pleased with the current move. He had a problem building grassroots support for his agenda items. Hopefully the current board/ED will learn from his mistake.
That has certainly been part of the problem with this whole deal. Chris is a very nice guy to meet and comes across as a very friendly person. I agree though that it was the correct decision for the board to make, as the membership certainly demanded it.
Shortgapbob Sorry that I missed you at the show. And, Chris may be a nice guy, I met his assistant who said so to me (hmm.....but she depends on him for her paycheck.) However, go back over the past several years and read Coin World's comments by him. He come across as arrogant, pompous and a jerk. So, he apparently is a very nice arrogant obnoxious jerk.
As I read the article in last week's CW (I've been on vacation, and when I go vacating, I VACATE. No email, no mail, no phone, no nuthin'), Cipoletti was put on paid administrative leave, and then they gave him a task to do. I don't think he was the right guy for the ANA ED position, so he had to go, but I also hope the current board doesn't go "French Revolution" on the organization and just chop off every proverbial head in the place. A certain amount of institutional memory is a good thing.
